Throwback Thursday under the COVID-19 pandemic: B-2 Spirit Strategic Bomber

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I tried to stay indoors as much as possible. Out of sheer boredom, I spent my time restoring old photos at home. Continuing with aircraft from the 2018 Tattoo Show—this time it is the B-2 Spirit strategic bomber.

Honestly, photographing the B-2 from the ground is a total failure, because it is impossible to make out any shape characteristics or details. In this regard, it truly lives up to its reputation as the most mysterious fighter (aircraft) in the world.

The B-2 "Spirit" is currently the world's only stealth strategic bomber. On October 20, 1981, the Northrop/Boeing team defeated Lockheed/Rockwell to win the Advanced Technology Bomber (ATB) program, developing and producing it for the U.S. Air Force with the assistance of scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In 1997, the first six B-2 bombers officially entered service, and to date, only 21 have been produced in total. During the period between the retirement of the F-117A Nighthawk attack aircraft and the entry into service of the F-35 Lightning II fighters, the B-2 and the F-22 Raptor fighters were the only stealth types capable of performing ground attack missions in the world. Each B-2 costs 2.4 billion USD; calculated by weight, the price per unit weight of the B-2 is two to three times that of gold (when initially equipped).
