Old Photos Series #13: Airbus A400M amid the COVID-19 Pandemic

Staying at home as much as possible during the COVID-19 pandemic, I was bored out of my mind, so I had to fix some old photos at home. The C-17 and Y-20 have already been introduced, so naturally, it’s time to post photos of the Airbus A400M.

Honestly, the A400M’s air display is much more impressive than the C-17 and Y-20; highly recommended. (Shutter speed too short, slight error) Airbus A400M EC-400 RIAT2018

The Airbus A400M is a four-engine turboprop transport aircraft designed by Airbus to meet European nations' needs for a military transport aircraft. It balances the performance and cost of both strategic and tactical airlifters. Since the official execution of the plan, three non-European countries, including South Africa, Chile, and Malaysia, have placed orders. The aircraft conducted its maiden flight on December 11, 2009, in the southwestern Spanish city of Seville.

The A400M incorporates many advanced technologies. According to Airbus, it can perform tasks that previously required three aircraft to complete. For example, the aircraft interior is equipped with winches and small cranes to facilitate cargo loading and unloading operations. In addition to the rear cargo door, two doors are also opened on the side of the tail, which can increase the efficiency of paratroopers jumping.

Besides being able to receive aerial refueling, the A400M also has built-in refueling piping that can conduct aerial refueling for other aircraft. At the same time, the A400M can adapt to various Runways, including those with gravel and stones. It also has high reliability, with a maintenance downtime of only 84 days required every 12 years.
