Upgrading to X-Plane 11.10b8 to Try Out the G1000

Updated X-Plane and noticed the version has reached 11.10b8.

X-Plane 11.10 Release Notes

Immediately switched the aircraft to a C172 equipped with a G1000 glass cockpit. It felt like a major upgrade, moving straight from the analog era into the digital age.

After switching the aircraft, I checked the hardware settings. It seems the defaults provided by X-Plane 11 are quite good. I decided not to reconfigure them, so I just flew it like this to have some fun.

I haven't had time to learn the powerful features of the G1000 yet, so I didn't set up a flight plan and just did some Visual Flight Rules touring over Tokyo. Surprisingly, the system's processing speed has improved, with the framerate staying between 10-20, and there were no stutters. I was originally worried about the G1000, fearing it would consume too much CPU time, but its performance turned out to be surprisingly stable.

Returned to Haneda Airport and landed on Runway 34L. Then stopped in front of Terminal 1.

After a short flight of 20-30 minutes, I am basically satisfied with the performance of 11.10b8.

Version 11.10 has improved the flight control dynamics model. My feeling is that it seems a bit more stable than before. The joystick response is not as sensitive as it used to be; the system performance is indeed improving constantly.

However, the next step is to spend time studying the G1000 manual—that is going to be a big challenge…
