X-Plane 11 FMS Usage Tutorial
An X-Plane 11 FMS Manual has been released on x-plane.org. It states: “This document may be copied and distributed by Laminar Research customers for entertainment only.” So, let’s introduce it here.
Regarding the simulation fidelity of this Flight Management System, the manual states: “Due to the immense complexity of a real-life Flight Management System, the version modelled in X-Plane 11 is simplified, and does not support every capability. However, the functions necessary to program and execute a flight plan are present, including the use of published arrival and departure procedures (SIDs and STARs) and instrument approaches.”
Essentially, it provides flight plan functionality similar to a Boeing 737 CDU, including SIDs, STARs, and instrument approaches.
The CDU acts as the input device for the flight computer. In X-Plane 11, it is a Pop-Up 2D window. You can use your mouse to make it pop up, move its position, resize it, or close the window.
Based on functionality, the CDU can be divided into the following areas: Display Screen Scratch Pad Line Select Keys Key Pad
