Unexpected Surprises at the 2016 Zhuhai Airshow
I became interested in the Zhuhai Airshow.
One reason was that I bought a certain aviation photography guide book when I went to Hirosaki Park to see the cherry blossoms
–ヒコーキ写真バイブル
The book contained a photo of the J-31, and the details of the airframe were very clear, leaving a deep impression on me.
The commentary mentioned that the shooting location was a derelict hotel on the south side of Zhuhai Airport (commonly known as the “Gun Tower”),
so I firmly remembered this shooting spot.
As the date approached, two colleagues who also love airshows proposed going to Zhuhai to take a look. So, the three of us traveled together and arrived at the legendary shooting spot on the south side of the airport early in the morning.
Then a miracle happened. On the roof of that hotel, I actually met Mr. I, the professional photographer who is the author of the book!

With the enthusiastic Mr. I guiding us, the shooting process went very smoothly. Because he had been shooting in Zhuhai for several days, he knew the performance items of every flight display team inside out. Therefore, information such as where the aircraft would fly in from and when the shutter opportunity would be Could be passed on to us in real-time. I also learned a lot from him about professional photography techniques, aviation, and piloting knowledge.
Mr. I lives in Himeji, and happened to be in Tokyo on a business trip this week.
So several of us had dinner together again, and I brought the book to ask him to sign the photo.
It can be said to be a perfect conclusion to this airshow event
