Waypoints Named After Beer
I went to Fukuoka on a business trip last week. Before the flight, I checked the route information and discovered that the route from Haneda (RJTT) to Fukuoka (RJFF) is extremely simple.
It involves the SEKID Departure procedure out of Haneda, followed by flying west all the way along Airway Y20 (SEKID is also the starting point of Y20). Once reaching STOUT, the end of Y20, you are already very close to Fukuoka.
Next, I checked the Arrival procedures for Fukuoka Airport and noticed an interesting phenomenon.
LAGER Arrival, EBISU Arrival, and the Waypoint MALTS… aren’t these all beer names? I couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
LAGER is explained as follows:
Also known as cellar beer, it is a type of beer made using low-temperature maturation technology. It is fermented with bottom-fermenting yeast and needs to be stored at low temperatures for several months after fermentation before it can be consumed.
However, the LAGER here likely refers to a famous product from Kirin Brewery Company.
When I went out for drinks with local colleagues that night, I found that LAGER beer produced at the Fukuoka factory was quite common in izakayas.

I took a few photos on the plane.
This one looks like it’s near the EBISU Waypoint, but out in the sea, there are no ground references to use.

I estimate this might be near the LAGER Waypoint.

This should be directly above the FUKUOKA DGC VOR; the terrain here is relatively easy to identify.

The scenery before landing at Fukuoka Airport is quite beautiful. If you have the chance to travel there for business or pleasure, please make sure to look out the window; you won’t be disappointed.
