2015 Return to Osaka Kansai Airport (RJBB) Plane Spotting Part 1
It had been a long hot summer since I last went plane spotting. I’ve been to Haneda quite a lot this year, so I decided to go to Osaka Kansai Airport (RJBB) to review what I knew and learn something new.
Compared to two years ago, I found that there were quite a few more aircraft with special liveries. It was a very fruitful trip.
The biggest highlight of this trip should be this brand new Boeing 787-9 from Singapore’s LCC, Scoot.
The aircraft registration is 9V-OJE, and it is named “Maju-Lah”. It features a special livery for Singapore’s 50th anniversary of independence.
Only the nose and the tail of the aircraft retain the original yellow livery, while the majority of the fuselage is milky white. It depicts a family of four holding balloons, celebrating the National Day theme. Additionally, the names of the sponsors are marked on the balloons, and the Merlion symbol of Singapore is painted near the nose.
The second biggest highlight of this trip to Osaka should be capturing this Boeing 737-800 from China Eastern Yunnan Airlines.
It is the 1000th airplane delivered to Mainland China by Boeing.
It features a peacock pattern symbolizing beauty, fashion, and good luck.
Accompanied by auspicious cloud patterns near the nose, it is truly a successful livery design full of Chinese characteristics.
If you zoom in to look closely, you can see the text “1000th BOEING AIRPLANE FOR CHINA” near the nose.
Next, let’s look at a Korean Air A330-200, registration HL8212.
Its livery features the winning crayon drawing from a children’s art competition.
The theme appears to be innocent children and sunflowers; it is very colorful and cute.
This is my first time photographing a T’Way Air aircraft, and it is another special livery.
The name of the special livery is “Why?”, but I don’t understand Korean, so I don’t know what it means.
The aircraft registration is HL8024, and the model is a Boeing 737-800.
Surprisingly, it was JA73NB, which served in SKYMARK until last year. It is quite a coincidence.
Here is a close-up of the livery on the tail. It looks like anime characters.
However, I am a complete layman in this area, so I don’t know the origin.
The third biggest highlight of this trip to Osaka should be seeing an Aircalin aircraft for the first time.
It features a special Hibiscus livery, which is truly very beautiful.
The aircraft registration is F-OHSD, and the model is an Airbus A330-200.
The livery is milky white based, with red flowers painted on the nose and tail. It is very eye-catching from a distance.
Let’s also take a close-up of its livery.
I looked up Aircalin, and it turns out this small airline only owns 3 aircraft in total: one A320 and two A330s. It was quite a coincidence to be able to see it at Kansai Airport.
It was also my first time seeing this SKYTEAM SkyTeam Alliance special livery China Airlines Airbus A330-302.
Its aircraft registration is B-18311.
There are only two China Airlines aircraft with the SkyTeam livery: the B747-400 (B-18206) and this A330-300 (B-18311). So I was quite lucky to capture it that day.
Additionally, regulations regarding the SkyTeam livery and a list of aircraft with this livery can be found here.
Finally, let me introduce this EVA Air “Hello Kitty” jet.
Hello Kitty jets are often seen at Haneda Airport.
However, this is the first time I have photographed this A330-200, registration B-16309.
According to the introduction on <a href=http://gb.evaair.com/gate/gb/evakitty.evaair.com/ch/Stories.aspx?show=6>EVA Air’s official website, this is the fifth “Hello Kitty” Cloud Jet, and its name is SPEED PUFF:
The fifth "Cloud Jet" is based on the concept of the legendary and desirable Somersault Cloud. It realizes an ancient myth on the Hello Kitty aircraft. The huge fuselage is a colorful cloud moving quickly, taking you to ride the wind and fly freely in the blue sky.
It is very poetic.
