Austin Meyer's Latest Interview Q&A: New iPad Client Coming Soon

On the official website, the latest interview with Austin Meyer, the author of X-Plane, has been released. It contains information about Austin’s personal life and some new developments regarding XP. Here is a brief translation.

Q: What was your earliest aviation experience? A: It’s funny; it was playing Microsoft Flight Simulator on the Apple II.

Q: What computer do you use? How does it help you develop XP? A: I program on a MacPro and then spend a long time testing new features on it. The iMac also offers an excellent performance-to-price ratio.

Q: When developing XP, what do you find the most exciting? A: Actually, it’s deleting code to make it concise and easy to maintain. The ultimate goal is to make the application simple yet powerful, while keeping the code short and sleek. This may be very difficult, but I really enjoy doing it. Of course, we still have a long way to go.

Q: What is your favorite aircraft to fly? A: I like the Lancair Evolution, which is also in X-Plane (registration N844X). I also introduced it in my blog.

Q: There is some personal information about you in the XP manual, but it hasn’t been updated for a while. Are there any new topics recently? A: There is Steam, Aerosoft, Xavion, and the new iPad version of the XP client.

  • Aerosoft has a massive catalog of products for MSFS, and they are now releasing XP versions as well, available both in retail stores and on Steam, continuing to push XP into the mainstream.

  • Through Steam, more users have become aware of XP. After all, they can download it anytime without waiting for a DVD delivery.

  • We just finished developing a new iPad version of the XP client (!!!) It should be online in about a week or two (!!!). You can use the iPad to control weather, flight position, set failures, and access various settings available in the PC version. You can also use the iPad to review flights and more. Furthermore, its UI is friendly, and it is very fast!
