Go Around Over Tokyo City Center

While walking near Ginza the other day, I suddenly saw a passenger jet flying at low altitude. I immediately realized it was a plane performing a Go-Around (missed approach) during landing at Haneda Airport. So I opened flightradar24 to check, and sure enough, Go-Around

It was a Solaseed Air Boeing 737-800, registration JA802X. It looked like it encountered something during its approach to Runway 22 and had to go around. When I saw it, the Altitude was probably only around 3000 feet. image

I checked the Weather at the time, but there was nothing particularly unusual. Could a small patch of clouds at 2000 feet have blocked the view of the Runway? image

According to the Approach Chart, the Decision Height is 1000 feet, and the Heading after the Go-Around should be 15 degrees, flying to the KASGA (Kasukabe) Waypoint. スクリーンショット 2014-08-18 23.37.08 I observed for a while, and sure enough, the aircraft flew over Kasukabe City, then turned south and came back. image

After that, it likely flew the ILS RWY23 approach. スクリーンショット 2014-08-18 23.42.13 The flight path basically matched the Approach Chart. image Ultimately, it landed safely. image

Maybe I’m just too sensitive to airplanes around me, but it’s still rare to see aircraft flying at such a low Altitude in the center of Tokyo. I summarized this as a souvenir.
