Air Algérie Flight AH5017 Disappears from Radar and Crashes

What is going on with the aviation industry this year? Major air disaster incidents keep occurring, and it is truly distressing to summarize them all…

On July 24, 2014, Air Algérie Flight AH5017 lost contact 50 minutes after Takeoff. The flight departed from Ouagadougou Airport (OUA/DFFD), Burkina Faso, with a Destination of Algiers-Houari Boumediene Airport (ALG/DAAG), Algeria. The flight was operated by Spanish airline Swift Air, using a McDonnell Douglas MD-83 aircraft.

On July 25, French President Hollande announced at the Élysée Palace in Paris that the crash site of the missing Air Algérie flight had been located. It is in the Gossi region of Mali, near the border with Burkina Faso. French soldiers have arrived at the crash site, and investigations have commenced. He stated that there were a total of 118 people on board, including 51 French citizens. Air Algérie had previously reported a total of 116 people on board. Weather may be the cause of the crash, but other possibilities cannot be ruled out at this time. French air accident investigation experts have departed for the site.

The crashed aircraft, the MD-83, bears the registration number EC-LTV, manufacturer serial number 53190/2148. It rolled off the assembly line in 1996, making it 15 years old. It is equipped with two Pratt & Whitney JT8D-219 engines and can accommodate 7 crew members and 112 passengers. The plane took off at 01:17 (UTC, which was also the local time) and was expected to reach its Destination at 05:10.

Coincidentally, a video of this crashed aircraft taking off a few days ago was filmed and uploaded to YouTube. You can take a look at this valuable footage.

I really didn’t want to write this as aviation news, but since there are too few clues to provide more information for now, I will have to stop the summary here.

This article will continue to be updated.
