A Glance at Nagasaki Airport RJFU
I recently traveled to Kyushu and returned home via Nagasaki Airport. Since I was quite tired from the journey, I didn’t gather much information, only hastily snapping a few photos at the airport observation deck as mementos. Let me share them with you all below.
Nagasaki Airport is also an airport located on the sea. Its Runway orientation is 14/32, with a length of 3,000 meters and a width of 60 meters. It is quite famous for being the world’s first offshore airport, completed in 1975, with part of its foundation utilizing a natural island and part created by land reclamation.
Similar to Hiroshima Airport, there are very few flights here, about one or two per hour, making it quite deserted.
According to the introduction at the observation deck, there are only 7 boarding gates here. To promote aviation knowledge, there are also information panels about ground vehicles within the airport, which shows a lot of thoughtfulness.
Let’s look at the aircraft next; there really are very few, with only two parked on the ground.
One is an Airbus A320-214, fresh from the factory last August, registration JA810P, belonging to the low-cost carrier Peach Aviation.
The fuselage reads “WING of TOHOKU”, which is said to be this aircraft’s nickname.
The photo above was taken as the engines were starting during pushback. We know the usual start sequence begins with the right engine; from the photo, we can see blue and white smoke exhaust from the right tail nozzle, while the left engine hasn’t started spinning yet.

There was also a JAL (Japan Airlines) 737-800, registration JA341J, only two years old, looking brand new.

Later, a propeller plane flew in along the traffic pattern.
It wasn’t until it got close to the Jet Bridge that I recognized it as a Bombardier DHC-8-201Q Dash 8,
registration JA802B, belonging to Oriental Air Bridge.

It was my first time seeing an Oriental Air Bridge aircraft. I checked the information and learned that their headquarters is located in Nagasaki City, Kyushu, Japan. The company mainly operates regional routes to and from Nagasaki Airport, possessing only 2 Bombardier Dash 8-200 aircraft. Their routes include Iki Airport/Fukue Airport and Tsushima Airport within Nagasaki Prefecture, as well as Fukuoka Airport in the neighboring Fukuoka Prefecture.
Finally, just as I was about to leave, an ANA (All Nippon Airways) Boeing 737-800 landed, registration JA63AN.
I snapped a photo of the pilot performing the pre-flight exterior inspection to keep as a memento.

The flight I took this time was a Skymark Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration JA73NN, manufactured in October 2010.

Alright, boarding complete. The cabin has a 3-3 layout and is quite clean.
Looking out the window at the red heart logo on the winglet, pretty cute, isn’t it?

The weather was poor that day, with a large area of thick altostratus clouds covering the ground. After takeoff, it was impossible to determine our position for a while. When a gap occasionally appeared, I took a photo as a memento.
